Let books be your dining table,
And you shall be full of delights
Let them be your mattress
And you shall sleep restful nights.
- Unknown

After a period of hiatus and a brief discovery of a very bright colored yellow book sitting atop my sister's cabinet, I discovered again, the joys of reading. I recalled how once upon a time when I was not busy typing on my electric typewriter and staring at visual nonsense on a 14'1 inch that nothing delights me more than curling up on my bed (or mattress) with a good old book. Gone are the days where I eagerly read every book on my bookshelf (Mum always buys Mavis Enid Blyton & Mitchell, Charles Dickens and the Nancy Drew series, all I got are hand-me-downs). Yet strangely, I let this familiar, comforting literary reprise slip away from me from time to time; dedicating all my precious time face-booking, sleeping, socializing and staring into space which does no good for my English. Somehow, I've always had this weird feeling that the more I spoke mandarin and avoided reading, the worse my grammar and vocab became. & this was true, I've been mis-pronouncing more words than usual (which saddens me to no end). Then again, the bright yellow book sitting conspicuously at a corner got me into the reading frenzy again.

The author was Augusten Burroughs this time, and the book was "possible side effects". I randomly lifted it off and within 10 pages, I was hooked. Turns out he had an even more famous book which was made into a film, called "running with scissors". However, to my disappointment, Wheelock's Borders wasn'tt carrying it. I walked in and walked out without "running with scissors", but instead found another gem "How to save your life" by Michael Gates who also wrote "How starbucks saved my life" (Starbucks saved a lot of lives if you were to ask me. A vanilla latte would resurrect me better than CPR.). Best of all, it was on the 30% discount rack. The hunt for Running is still on though.

Till then and before the flame burns out for the spate of literary madness, I shall be tucked safe and warm in my bed every weekend trying to improve my English.

My mum is the original Sasha Fierce
6:48 AM - Monday, February 15, 2010

Just as I thought this year's cny would be yet another snooze fest, my normally "CCC" a.k.a. cool, calm & collected mum told my aunt off. It's like watching a HK drama come to life! Trust me, it takes a hell lot of effort to piss my mum off (no one tests her patience as much as I do) so I credit it to my aunt's incessant nagging, the hot weather, Sozo the dog sniffing around her legs and her uncomfortable little black dress. Anyway, far from shocking me, it provided comic relief to the boring atmosphere. Yes, that was the only entertaining event that took place today.

Of all public holidays, I hate Chinese New Year the most. If not for the red packets and as what the Chinese call "giving face", I would boycott this occasion all together. Somehow, there is something about forced smiles, shaking hands and greeting "Happy New Year" to some of my detestable relatives that irks me to no end. Luckily, I'm saved from the clutches of my dad's side relatives. This year, I also selectively shook hands...a grand total of 7 hands I shook (and 3 included my best friends' parents). I used to shake around 20. Just waiting for work to start so I can skip visiting relatives altogether from next year on.

Now, when will the website to check the Toto draw load properly?

After years of sticking to my old blog layout, I'm finally getting a new skin that loads properly in Firefox.

No more juxtaposed posts!

I spent nearly 4 hours altering the HTML to suit my style from the original template. Talk about dedication!

Lost many of my friends' blog addresses due to the change, please do shout-out your addresses under "comments" if you want me to link you!

Thanks for the support!

Ciao bellas/bellos!
